JOB SUMMARY:  This position is located at the Maintenance facility, MWR Department, NAS Jacksonville. The Incumbent is the Maintenance Team Leader and responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities of journeyman, and apprentices in the carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry and general maintenance trades.  Prepares and maintains tools, materials and equipment. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES:
This position reports directly to the Facility and Maintenance Manager and is responsible for planning work assignments for employees and assisting in various degrees of work performance.  Determines the type of material and tools needing in keeping within budgetary restraints.  Receives work assignments from Facility and Maintenance Manager in general terms and plans the details sequence of work to be accomplished.  Pays close attention to specifications and codes with appearances being a major factor in a quality final product.   Ensures subordinates are trained in the proper work methods and safety techniques.  Conducts on-site training sessions to insure proper use of tools and equipment.  Advises supervisor of overall work progress and special situations or problems and employee morale.  Initiates work performance evaluation as required and forwards to the immediate supervisor.

   

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Must have the ability to work from and read blueprints and sketches, and apply correct specifications and comply with applicable building codes.  Required to draw accurate sketches to specifications including accurate measurements and cost projections. Must interpret and incorporate all OSHA rules and regulations.  Must have knowledge of shop mathematics for the planning of projects and computing material and labor costs.  Must have 5+ years of experience working in a maintenance role with a high level of skill in using hand tools and power hand tools.  3+ years of supervisory experience including staff training required.  Experience in MWR maintenance experience preferred.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is done indoors and outdoors in various conditions.  Incumbent may work on ladders and scaffolding and exposed to various fumes and particles in the air.  Requires standing, walking, bending stooping, and lifting weight over 50 lbs.  Indoor work may expose the worker to drafts, noise, dust, dirt and require standing on concrete for long periods.  Work also includes the potential for cuts, bruises and burns.

 

NOTE:  Some positions have special requirements. SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: Spousal Preference can be used only once to gain regular full time employment in the commuting area but may be used multiple times for flexible type position.
