BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Develops a comprehensive liberty program that includes scheduling, organizing, programming, publicizing, directing and evaluating both recurring and nonrecurring activities for a population of 18-25 year-old single sailors. Responsible for the operation of the liberty program center complete with internet computers, recreational equipment and a variety of diverse programs to meet the need of the targeted personnel.  Maintains a high level of visibility with the sailors through innovative methods of outreach.  Collaborates with other branches of the department in the planning, promoting and implementing of social activities to provide well rounded programs utilizing numerous facilities.  Maintains and utilizes entertainment resources to book and contract entertainment.  Assists in soliciting for commercial sponsorship from local vendors and corporations to enhance programs offered.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREDMust be able to work independently, make sound decisions and use good judgment. Must have knowledge of the goals, philosophy, principles, techniques and methods of procedures used in organizing, planning, administering and conducting leisure time activities.  Must be able to market the program and motivate eligible patrons. Must have working knowledge of general business principles for financial planning/reporting for APF/NAF funds to ensure optimum use of resources available.  Ability to plan, present and execute budgets. Must possess skill in negotiating program issues and operational requirements with patron and personnel inside and outside the local installation and community organization.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge in current trends in recreation.  Prefer 1-2 years supervisory experience.  Strongly prefer a bachelors’ degree in Recreation Management or related field.   Will require working outside for events or leading outdoor group outings or trips. Work may require sitting, walking, long periods of standing, bending and lifting of moderately heavy items up to 40 pounds. Occasional travel of less than 10% may be required. Must have or be able to maintain a current driver’s license from the state of Florida within 90 days of being placed in the position.

 

NOTE:  Some positions have special requirements. Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks and receipt of proof of education (where applicable). Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. Participation in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required. We utilize E-Verify to confirm selectee’s eligibility to work in the United States. Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies within 60 days of closing date. SPOUSAL PREFERENCE:  Spousal Preference can be used only once to gain regular full time employment in the commuting area but may be used multiple times for flexible type position.
To prove eligibility, you must submit the following with your resume/application:

  • Copy of spouses’ orders that state the “Ultimate Activity” is within the average commuting distance to NAS Jacksonville.
  • A copy of the marriage certificate that provides proof that marriage occurred prior to the issuance of the orders. 

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Continued employment is contingent upon a successfully completed and positively adjudicated National Agency Check (NACI) or higher background clearance as required by the position or local security requirements.
