JOB SUMMARY:  This position is located at the Gym and Fitness Center, which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. This activity is maintained and operated as a service for all active duty, retired military and their dependents.  Incumbent uses initiative in completing daily/routine assignments and receives general guidance and supervision from Fitness Coordinator. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES: 
The employee will perform basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques, supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain facility and equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed.  Greets customers and checks IDs to ensure only authorized patrons utilize the facility. Ensures customers are aware of all regulations and rules are followed while utilizing the facility. Sells products from pro shop area and ensures that funds are properly entered into the point of sale system. Prepares Daily Activity Report and deposits money for accounting.  Performs general housekeeping duties such as ensuring entry area is neat and clean at all times.  May assist in cleaning restrooms, policing grounds, sweeping, mopping and emptying trash receptacles in facility. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 2 or more years of experience in working as an assistant in a gym setting is preferred.  Prior MWR experience also preferred. Knowledge and ability to operate a computerized point of sale system and provide proper change. Documented cash handling experience is necessary.  Must have the ability to meet and deal effectively with a variety of patrons of varied rates, ranks and backgrounds.  Incumbent will be required to multi-task; during peak hours of operations the incumbent must be able to effectively assist many patrons at the same time.  Must be able to exercise good judgment in applying well established policies and procedures. Within 90 days of appointment, must possess and maintain a current CPR and AED Certification along with Navy Basic Fitness Certification.

 

NOTE:  Some positions have special requirements. Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks and receipt of proof of education (where applicable). Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. Participation in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required. We utilize E-Verify to confirm selectee’s eligibility to work in the United States. Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies within 60 days of closing date. For positions requiring travel more than twice per year, selectee will be required to obtain and maintain in good standing a Government-issued Travel Card for official government travel purposes.

SPOUSAL PREFERENCE: Spousal Preference can be used only once to gain regular full time employment in the commuting area but may be used multiple times for flexible type position.
